Former U.S. attorney and former Deputy Assistant Attorney General Harry Litman and law professor Anthony Kreis gave their input on Giuliani’s situation from the legal standpoint, and things are not looking great for the man once called America’s Mayor.
Giuliani will not be offered a plea deal
Sources close to The Guardian claim that Fulton County prosecutor Fani Willis and her team oppose offering plea deals to Donald Trump and at least two more co-defendants, former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, and Trump’s former lawyer Rudy Giuliani. So far, four co-defendants have taken the pleas, and three of them are former Trump lawyers Sidney Powell, Jenna Ellis, and Kenneth Chesebro.
Litman’s views on Giuliani’s case
Litman commented on the report, writing on X, “If the Fulton County reports are accurate, it’s particularly devastating for Giuliani. He’s broke and now will have no leverage to plead out except for a tiny break for acceptance of responsibility.” He added, “So he’ll need to spend $ he doesn’t have for a conviction he likely can’t escape.”
Kreis went even further
Law professor who is specialized in Constitutional law and employment discrimination Anthony Kreis agreed with Litman and added, “This, plus you add the defamation trial that gets under way on December 11th and the looming threat of a federal prosecution, things look pretty grim.” He added, “Nor does it help that evidence of his involvement in the Coffee County affair appears to deepen with time. He’s in a bad spot.”
Giuliani’s spokesman, Ted Goodman, gave a response
Goodman told Newsweek, “The only deal Mayor Giuliani is making is to tell the truth, and, unfortunately, every single prosecutor, in this case, is a partisan Democrat focused on their own political ambitions and keeping President Donald Trump out of the White House.” He called the report “another unethical leak.”
Giuliani’s troubles
The former NYC mayor was sued by his former lawyer for over $1.35 million in unpaid legal fees. Noelle Dunphy, a former employee, also sued Guiliani over abuse allegations. Former Georgia election workers Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss are expected to ask for $15.5 million and $43 million from Giuliani at a defamation trial. There are reports that the former NYC Mayor owners a significant amount in taxes for 2021.
