Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie believes Americans will leave Trump “en masse” if he fails to secure the GOP presidential nomination in 2024. The Republican, one of the Trump’s harshest critics, had more to say about his former ally.
“Four-time loser”
While on ABC’s “This Week,” Christie stated, “I think the public en masse will begin to ignore a four-time loser like Donald Trump.” Christie, a long-shot presidential hopeful, believes Trump will not concede, saying, “I don’t suspect he’ll ever concede he’s ever lost any election, even though he lost primaries in 2016 to Ted Cruz, and he’ll lose primaries this time as well, but it doesn’t matter … in the end, the rules will govern here just as the rules governed in 2020.”
Trump’s losses
Christie explained, “He lost in 2018 in the House, he lost in 2020, in the Senate and in the White House. And in 2022, he led us to more losses in the governorships and the Senate, and if he loses in 2024, he will be a four-time loser.”
Trump will “moan and complain”
Christie also predicted Trump’s future, asserting, “I think he’ll go back to Mar-a-Lago. He’ll continue to carp and moan and complain and say we don’t deserve him. Anything that gets him out of this race and what keeps him out of the White House is fine by me.”
Christie is betting on New Hampshire
The former New Jersey Governor is counting on independents to vote in the GOP primary in New Hampshire, which would allow him “to change the turnout model and establish himself as the clear alternative,” Christie senior adviser Maria Comella wrote. Despite a recent rise in the polls, 47% of GOP primary voters in New Hampshire say they would “never” back Christie, likely due to his criticism of Trump.
The ex-governor’s campaign asked voters valid questions
“With Trump the dominant candidate at this stage of the race, we are seeing what isn’t working: Get to Trump’s right, run as a Trump clone, ignore Trump, try to please everyone,” Comella wrote, and asked, “What case against Trump will Haley or DeSantis be able to make were the field to consolidate further, that they can’t make now?”
