The gag order in Trump’s NYC trial has been reinstated, and Trump “celebrated” by going after Judge Engoron’s wife and the Judge’s clerk.
Trump’s Truth Social post
The former president, who is a defendant in a New York fraud case, wrote on Truth Social, “Judge Engoron’s Trump Hating wife, together with his very disturbed and angry law clerk, have taken over control of the New York State Witch Hunt Trial aimed at me, my family, and the Republican Party.”
Trump’s post was a repose to alleged X comments
Trump’s attacks on Dawn Engoron came approximately an hour after the gag order was put into place. He responded to anti-Trump comments made on X, such as Trump is “headed to the big house” or an altered photo of the former president in an orange jumpsuit. However, Dawn Engoron told Newsweek, “I do not have a Twitter account. This is not me. I have not posted any anti-Trump messages.”
Trump reposted from X and added captions
The 45th president and likely GOP nominee for the 2024 elections shared the X posts and added a caption, “This is the Judge’s Wife and Family that are putting these things out. I am not entitled to a Jury under this Statute. Can this be happening in America?” This gag order came into place after a two-week pause.
The question of Dawn Engoron’s X account
The Hill also received a response from the Judge’s wife, claiming the account was not hers. Al Baker, spokesperson for the New York Office of Court Administration, told CBS News, “Justice Engoron’s wife has not sent social media posts regarding the former president. They are not hers. She does not have an X, formerly Twitter, account.”
Trump vs. Engoron
During his testimony, Trump made several comments against the Judge, so Judge Engoron asked his lawyers, “Can you control your client? This is not a political rally.” Trump, his two adult sons, and their company, the Trump Organization, have already been found liable for fraud in the case, and the former president called New York Attorney General Letitia James “racist” numerous times.
The Judge and clerks received threats
A court official said that the law clerk’s phone and social media accounts were flooded with hate messages after Trump’s initial post against her. The threats against the Judge and his clerks prompted court officials to work with “the FBI and Homeland Security to devise the appropriate security measures that would be implemented in order to protect the judge, his chambers staff, and those closely associated around him, including his family.”
