Mark Meadows’s book publisher is suing the former White House chief of staff, arguing that he violated an agreement by including false statements about the 2020 elections.
The Florida court received a filing
The publishing house All Seasons Press filed a lawsuit in Sarasota County, Florida. The filing claims, “Meadows, the former White House Chief of Staff under President Donald J. Trump, promised and represented that ‘all statements contained in the Work are true and based on reasonable research for accuracy’ and that he ‘has not made any misrepresentations to the Publisher about the Work.”
It goes on
The filing further says, “Meadows breached those warranties, causing ASP to suffer significant monetary and reputational damage when the media widely reported … that he warned President Trump against claiming that election fraud corrupted the electoral votes cast in the 2020 Presidential Election and that neither he nor former President Trump actually believed such claims.”
The lawsuit came after alleged revelations
ABC reported that Meadows received an immunity to testify in one of the cases against Trump. The outlet said Meadows talked to Jack Smith several times and got the deal, though his lawyer denied the claims.
Meadows could be a vital witness
The former Chief of staff could be a key witness in the case regarding the alleged attempt to overturn the 2020 elections. The trial for the D.C. case is set for March 4, 2024.
Meadows’s book was published in 2021
The book, “The Chief’s Chief,” was published in 2021. The lawsuit further says, “Meadows’ reported statements to the Special Prosecutor and/or his staff and his reported grand jury testimony squarely contradict the statements in his Book, one central theme of which is that President Trump was the true winner of the 2020 Presidential Election, and that election was ‘stolen’ and ‘rigged’ with the help from ‘allies in the liberal media,’ who ignored ‘actual evidence of fraud.'”
Meadows allegedly said Trump was being “dishonest”
ABC News reported that the former Chief of staff said Trump was “dishonest” about the elections and admitted to the prosecutors, led by Jack Smith, that the Republicans lost. In the book, Meadows wrote, “I KNEW HE DIDN’T LOSE.”
The publisher wants money
The company requested $350,000 it paid Meadows as an advance for the book and $600,000 in out-of-pocket damages. Further, it asks for at least $1 million each for reputational damage suffered by the company and loss of expected profits.
The lawsuit cited “rumors circulated in the media”
The filing argues that due to “rumors circulated in the media,” the interest in the book is not profitable. The publisher’s suit adds, “The truth of which was increasingly in doubt, precipitously declined,” led to ASP selling “only approximately 60,000 of the 200,000 first printing of the Book.”
The publisher had concerns
The Florida filing further claims that the publisher had reservations early on and, therefore, withheld installments. The tense relationship with Meadows only intensified after he allegedly Meadows’ attorneys threatened the company.
Jury trial
The company also requested a jury trial in the Florida filing from November 3.
Meadows is a Georgia co-defendant
The former Chief of staff was charged in Georgia for “violating Georgia’s racketeering law, or RICO, and soliciting the violation of oath by a public officer for his alleged actions in a broader effort to overturn Georgia’s election results in Trump’s favor.”
Trump hopes he will stay loyal
The former president wrote on Truth Social that he wouldn’t expect Meadows to “lie about the Rigged and Stolen” election “merely for getting IMMUNITY,” but “Some people would make that deal.”
This led to a gag order
Jack Smith’s team said Trump’s “harmful” post on Truth Social was attempting to “send an unmistakable and threatening message to a foreseeable witness in this case.” The order was reimposed and lifted days later.
