Republican Senator Lindsey Graham shared his admiration for the President while criticizing his ally, former president Trump, during an interview on CBS’ “Face the Nation.”
Graham’s approval of Biden’s actions
South Carolina Senator stated, “I want to applaud President Biden for his strong statement in support of Israel,” and added, “I just got off the phone with Israelis. Their goal is to destroy Hamas in the south and try to save as many innocent Palestinians as possible, to prevent escalation north from Hezbollah.”
Graham was not proud of Trump
President Trump’s apparent praise of Iran-backed Hezbollah did not sit well with the Republican Senator, who stated, “Yeah, that was a huge mistake. If I were President Trump, [I’d] talk about being the strongest President for Israel in modern times.”
Trump is on the “right track”
However, Graham shared that Trump is on the right path: “He’s — he issued a statement two days ago, ‘I stand with Bibi (nickname of Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu), I stand with Israel.’ Yeah, it was a mistake. He’s on the right track.”
Trump’s speech
Trump previously said, “Hezbollah are very smart, and they (Biden administration) have a National Defense minister saying ‘I hope Hezbollah doesn’t attack us from the north.’ So the following morning, they attacked.” The frontrunner for the 2024 GOP presidential primary added, “They might not have been doing it, but if you listen to this jerk, you would attack from the north because he said that’s our weak spot.”
The Trump campaign fired back
“President Trump was clearly pointing out how incompetent Biden and his administration were by telegraphing to the terrorists an area that is susceptible to an attack. Smart does not equal good,” said an X from the campaign’s “War Room” account.
Saved from the boos
During a speech in Summerville, Trump praised Graham, but the gatherers started booing him for even mentioning the Senator. Trump defended him, “Another man who’s always there, I tell you what, when I need help on the left, he’s great,” Trump said. “And he’s my friend, too, Lindsey Graham. Wherever you are, Lindsey, thank you.”
Graham was almost among Georgia’s co-defendants
The Senator was recommended to be charged by the Grand Jury in Georgia, with the jurors who wanted him charged claimed it would be “with respect to the national effort to overturn the 2020 presidential election.”
Graham responded
The Senator stated, “I was totally surprised. … I never suggested anybody set aside the election. I never said, ‘go find votes.’ I never said anything other than trying to find how the mail-in balloting system worked.”
Nothing happened
“At the end of the day, nothing happened,” Graham said, adding, “What I did was consistent with my job as a U.S. senator chair of the Judiciary Committee. … We’re opening up Pandora’s box. I think the system in this country is getting off the rails. We have to be careful not to use the legal system as a political tool.”
Graham also confirmed he did not turn on Trump
Graham was subpoenaed and testified as part of the Fulton County District Attorney’s investigation into interference in the 2020 election, but he did not flip.
The Senator spoke to the reporters
“I didn’t kill President Kennedy, and I’m not cooperating with — that’s crazy stuff,” he told reporters in Columbia, adding, “I went, had my time, and I haven’t heard from them since, hadn’t talked to them since. I was well-treated, fairly treated, that’s it. That’s crazy stuff.”
Graham has a theory
Graham does not think the Georgia trial will start before the 2024 elections and shared, “If he wins the presidency, I think this case probably goes away.” The Senator is a staunch Trump supporter, “I don’t think there’s a better choice for President Trump, if he gets the nomination, for VP than Tim Scott.”
