“Keep Your 8%” Entitled Server Flips Out at Customer After He Doesn’t Tip Enough to Meet Her Expectations

A TikTok user filmed his server as he handed him the bill. The viral video, with over 4.7 million views, did not show the original poster in a great light.

The clip’s overlay text says, “When your waitress feels entitled,” and it shows the woman coming to the poster’s table and asking if everything is okay.

Posted by TikTok user Simp, it shows the server asking, “Sir, this is only an 8% tip. Was everything okay?”

The male voice says, “Yeah, it was alright.”

The server was not happy and did not hide her displeasure. The poster then explained, “You didn’t really do much, and I had to do all the eating, so… whatever.”

Obviously, the woman did not care for this response, so she told him, “Keep your 8%.”

If you live outside the US, it might be hard to understand what went wrong. In the US, servers live from tips, which is uncommon in many other countries. That is why tippers give around 15 to 20% in the US, and anything less might make the server feel as if they did something wrong.

For example, tipping 6% means the service was bad. There would be no tip in Europe if the service were not good.

Also, it is interesting that women tip 2% more than an average American man. Women would give around 7% even if the service were terrible, while men would provide 5%.

That is why the comment section was filled with TikTok users saying that “Tipping is not required…” or that “Tipping is optional.”

Others agreed that the “tipping system in the States is dreadful.”

Some disliked the server’s attitude, as one woman said, “It’s her attitude for me. I would have gladly kept my 8%.”

Another person shared different viewpoints, writing, “All these comments need to stop eating out, if you don’t want to pay for a SERVICE, then don’t go out.”

A TikTok user chimed in, “As a bartender, you take the good with the bad and move on with your life.”

A person shared, “I literally went out with a group of friends, and the same thing happened to us. Mind you, our bill was 242.00, and we left a 65.00 tip.”

Another added, “Living in the UK, I will never understand tipping.. like.. are you not getting paid by your employer?”

Another European wrote, “In Spain, we tip nothing, and the waiters work harder.”

The debate continued, and the video racked up over 22k comments from around the globe.

Many agreed that the issues were not the tipper and the server but that the system was just wrong. What do you think? How would you rate your tipping skills? Was this man out of line for filming the server’s reaction to his tipping?
