After kids were exposed to the world-famous Michelangelo’s David, at least one parent complained the children had been exposed to adult material.
Forced to resign
Hope Carrasquilla was forced to resign as a Tallahassee Classical school principal. Carrasquilla had two choices: either to leave or to be fired.
Parents are always right
Carrasquilla had to resign since new laws, brought by Ron DeSantis, ban public schools from teaching sex education and gender identity.
Though the statue of David is naked, a parent called it “por..graphic”, must not have realized that it represents a Biblical figure. It appears that two more parents complained.
David was shown to students in sixth grade
Carrasquilla spoke to HuffPost, explaining that the school’s usual protocol is to inform parents by letter when pupils are to be shown “potentially controversial” classical artwork.
Series of miscommunications
Due to a “series of miscommunications,” the letter did not reach the parents on time.
Carrasquilla said that a parent in question “felt her child should not be viewing those pieces.”
The school defends itself
According to the school, David was not an issue. The actual problem was that the parents needed to be appropriately notified.
Tallahassee Classical school’s board chairperson Barney Bishop III said: “We have a practice.”
Egregious mistake
The Bishop added that parents were notified last year: “Parents should know: in class, students are going to see, hear, or talk about this. This year, we didn’t send out that notice.”
He explained that “we made an egregious mistake” and concluded, “The rights of parents trump the rights of kids.”
Not even DeSantis knows what’s going on
In his “war on woke,” it appears that DeSantis started flip-flopping. First, he claimed that the war in Ukraine was a “territorial dispute.”
Days later, he told Pierce Morgan that Russian President Vladimir Putin was a “war criminal.”
Then again, he told the media, “I care more about securing our own border in the United States than I do about the Russia-Ukraine border.”
War on non-white people, Disney, LBGTQ, periods
The list of bans in Florida is long. However, the first revenge will soon come from Disney.
After DeSantis insisted Disney was woke and wanted it sorted out, so to speak, they pushed back.
LGBQ conference
In a few months, Disney World will host the Out & Equal Workplace Summit, the largest LGBQ conference globally.
The conference sponsors are Apple, McDonald’s, Uber, Walmart, Hilton, Amazon, Boeing, Cracker Barrel, and other giants.
So, what next on the curriculum?
The Washington Post reported that sixth graders should discuss other essential art pieces apart from David.
Among them are Michelangelo’s fresco painting The Creation of Adam and Botticelli’s Birth of Venus. Both display a dose of nudity.
Will educators keep resigning?
Florence Mayor Dario Nardella tweeted, “Confusing art with por…raphy was “ridiculous.”
The former principal, parents, and children were invited to The Florence museum housing Michelangelo’s Renaissance masterpiece, David.
