Man catches son having dinner with in-laws despite canceling Mother’s Day visit for work, then goes on to bash him publicly on Facebook – “They should adopt him”

A father of a 23-year-old man complained to the internet about whether his decision to call out the son on Facebook was justified.

In a Reddit thread AITA, the man told the posters that the son is happily married and his in-laws “adore him.”

The young couple made plans to visit the son’s parents but canceled, saying they needed to work. The dad, however, saw on his daughter-in-law’s Facebook that the two had dinner with her parents instead.

It was Mother’s Day, and the son sent his mother flowers, but when she found out that the son went to his in-laws, she “was in tears.

The father went on his son’s Facebook and left a public comment calling him a liar and complaining that he and his wife were “helping them pay for the wedding and other bills.”

Then he went to his daughter-in-law’s page and wrote, “I was sorry that she thinks she’s too good for us but not too good to ask us for money when they didn’t have it.”

In an edit, the father told his son, this time via phone, that “he feels he’s too good for us except when he needs money.” The man added, “He wants to post all these pictures of him doing all these fun things with his new family, then they should adopt him.”

He left his son a link on why to adopt an adult person.

Most Reddit judges were on the side of the young couple, with many calling the father for his unhinged behavior. One person said, “Don’t stalk his wife’s Facebook and then leave abusive comments like you’re an internet troll.”

Another also added that apart from the father, the son and his wife were also in the wrong since they initially accepted the dinner invitation.

Some were not as understanding, “Hmm, I wonder why the son had to lie about work…possibly because he knew an insane overreaction would be incoming.”

Another shared this sentiment, writing, “Seriously, the whole time I was reading this, I was like, well yeah, no wonder he doesn’t want to spend any time with you if this is how you behave…”

One of the most liked comments called out everyone involved, “they shouldn’t have lied, but you are a WAY bigger AH than they were. Seriously? Shamming them on FB? Grow up and act like an adult.”

Many were upset that the original poster went to “air your dirty laundry in the street.”

Others wondered, “Did you ask why they bailed on you before you resorted to verbally abusing them on Facebook?”

Reddit users did not spare the father’s feelings, with a person asking, “What are you 12?”

Despite many claiming that the son and his wife did not have to lie, everyone agreed that the dad’s behavior was way out of line.

What do you think about this public display of humiliation?
