Republican from Ohio, Max Miller, called out House Speaker Mike Johnson, saying in part he “did a 180 on everything he believed in, and that to me is disgusting.” This begs the question of whether ousting McCarthy was a good idea.
Miller spoke up
The GOP lawmaker said how Johnson “continues to play games” and added, “We are talking about a man [who] 30 days ago said that he was an anti-(continuing resolution) guy. We are talking about a man 30 days ago that was anti-Ukraine funding. … It shows me he was never really morally convicted in his positions to begin with.”
He did “a 180”
Miller continued, “He just did a 180 on everything he believed in, and that, to me, is disgusting.” But, Politico reported there are more Republicans who are not happy with Johnson, though no one was as blunt as Miller. Andy Biggs, who voted to oust McCarthy, said, “People are dealing with a little bit of disapprobation,” adding, “I don’t know what people are gonna do.”
Johnson pushed back
Chip Roy was also among Republicans who had something to say against Johnson who pushed back, and his spokesperson said, “Speaker Johnson’s views have not changed. He will continue fighting to stop the flow of illegal migrants and illicit drugs through our wide open Southern border, demand accountability for any aid to Ukraine, and ensure [the foreign intelligence law known as] Section 702 is reformed to prevent abuses from ever occurring again.”
Cheney’s book has some juicy allegations
A new book by Liz Cheneym, “Oath and Honor,” accuses Johnson of being “less than honest” with his fellow Republicans. She wrote, “He was playing bait and switch, assuring members that the brief made no claims about specific allegations of [electoral] fraud when, in fact, it was full of such claims.”
“Misleading” Republicans
“Mike was seriously misleading our members,” Cheney wrote, adding, “The brief did assert as facts known to the amici many allegations of fraud and serious wrongdoing by officials in multiple states.” The book details the current House Speaker and his relationship with former President Trump. But, his spokesperson denied the claims, while Trump’s spokesperson called the book fictional.
Johnson wished Cheney the best
The spokesperson for Johnson said, “Unfortunately, Ms Cheney is not presenting an accurate portrayal of those events. And while he does not plan to purchase a copy of ‘Oath and Honor,’ Speaker Johnson wishes former representative Cheney and her family the best in whatever her future endeavors may be.”
