A bombshell report by ABC says one of Trump’s lawyers talked to DOJ and Jack Smith. The lawyer said she “very clearly” told the former president of the implications if he failed to fully comply but swore he did in the Mar-a-Lago classified documents case.
Trump understood the warning
According to ABC sources, the lawyer, Jennifer Little, told Trump that “it’s going to be a crime” if he does not do what was asked of him, but says he did, adding that he “absolutely” understood the warning. The lawyer also described the difference between the DOJ’s subpoena and Trump’s previous legal issues. Sources quoted her telling Trump, “You’ve got to comply.”
Little is representing Trump in a Georgia case
The lawyer currently works for Trump on his Georgia case. She reportedly spoke to Trump regarding the classified documents in May 2022, days after he was subpoenaed. Little was hired in 2021 after Georgia’s DA, Fani Willis, started an investigation into alleged election interference.
Another attorney had saved messages
Evan Corcoran, Trump’s other attorney, also warned the former president in person, ABC News reported in September. He saved recordings, which are vital to Jack Smith’s case in Florida. Trump’s spokesperson, Steven Cheung, commented, “These notes reflect the legal opinions and thoughts of the lawyer, not the client.” Little and Corcoran met with Trump 12 days after the subpoena, reports claim.
Little reportedly made herself very clear
ABC report quoted sources saying, “Once this is signed – if anything else is located – it’s going to be a crime.” The National Archives pressured Trump over documents after he exited the office. He returned 15 boxes with 200 classified documents, which urged the National Archives to check for more. They contacted the Justice Department, marking the beginning of the investigation into the alleged mishandling of classified documents.
The FBI search came three months after this meeting
Three months after Trump met with his lawyers, the FBI searched Mar-a-Lago and found over 100 classified materials. Little and Corcoran spoke to investigations after the March ruling that overridden attorney-client privilege if evidence suggested Trump allegedly used his lawyers for illegal matters. The Mar-a-Lago case should go to trial in August next year, though the Judge indicated that might change.
