“Stunning development” in Mar-a-Lago case could ruin Trump’s defense – “This completely undercuts all of Trump’s PR and bluster”

Reports claim that Trump knew the FBI would enter his Mar-a-Lago property months before, making his claims of “a horrible and shocking BREAK-IN” extremely unlikely.

Reactions from the former federal prosecutor

Legal analyst and former federal prosecutor Joyce Vance gave an insight into the notes the ABC obtained. The notes were from attorney Evan Corcoran, and they allege that Trump knew the FBI was coming in May to search his Florida property.

However, this goes against Trump’s narrative. In August, after the FBI came to search for secret documents, The former president shared on Truth Social it was “a horrible and shocking BREAK-IN.”

The notes also find that TRump allegedly ordered Mar-a-Lago workers Walt Nauta and Carlos De Oliveira to move boxes of sensitive materials before the FBI agents came in. Vance wrote, “Trump knew that a search was likely in the works when he set Nauta and De Oliveira to the task of removing boxes from storage in Mar-a-Lago, and subsequently returning fewer of them than were removed.”

Trump’s outrage

“The inference is that Trump knowingly removed items he did not want prosecutors to find. That’s a stunning development and advance in what we know about Jack Smith’s evidence against Trump on the obstruction charge,” she said. “So much for Trump’s outraged protestations the day of the search that it happened without warning.”

The case just got more complicated

“He didn’t do so, even removing some once he learned a search was possible,” Vance wrote. “Prosecutors can argue to jurors that the evidence shows that Trump deliberately secreted items out of view of his lawyers and also of DOJ, anticipating the search. The evidence against Trump could get even worse for Trump if his remaining co-defendants flip.”

Inside the indictment

The June indictment brought by Jack Smith’s team reads how Trump asked his attorneys, “What happens if we just don’t respond at all or don’t play ball with them?” The notes reveal the attorney told the former president: “Well, there’s a prospect that they could go to a judge and get a search warrant and that they could arrive here.”

Further, it says that Trump responded, “I don’t want anybody looking through my boxes,” and, “Wouldn’t it be better if we just told them we don’t have anything here?”

Trump’s spokesperson fired back

Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung told ABC News: “The attorney-client privilege is one of the oldest and most fundamental principles in our legal system, and its primary purpose is to promote the rule of law.”

“Whether attorneys’ notes are detailed or not makes no difference—these notes reflect the legal opinions and thoughts of the lawyer, not the client,” the spokesperson concluded.

Where are the documents?

Many people on Reddit asked where are the documents. One poster wrote, “Saudi Arabia. They don’t just give people $2 Billion for no reason against the advice of their own trade board. There is no doubt in my mind that Trump sold state secrets to the Saudi royalty with the help of Kushner.”

Pressure on the Judge

Another wondered, “Will his Lady Friend Judge Cannon try something desperate to save him? I pose this question because many might wonder about her bias towards Trump. I just think the evidence is so solid against Trump that any attempt would be damaging to her. Time for her to just do her job.”

Destroying Trump’s narrative

Someone added, “The core point is that Trump’s own attorney – apparently based on transcribed voice notes now available – more or less told Trump in May 2022 that DOJ may very well show up with a search warrant some morning if he doesn’t play along. This completely undercuts all of Trump’s PR and bluster about how ‘it was a total surprise, we were cooperating all along, etc.’ that he wants to sow in the mind of the potential jury pool out there.”
