Accusations of grifting
Trump’s wife and former First Lady was allegedly paid $155,000 in 2021, The New York Times reported. Melania Trump’s name did not appear on the list of expenses, but the report allegedly showed two payments from 2021.
Two alleged payments
One totaled $125,000 and another $30,000, and they were for “Designer’s Management Agency.” The money was listed for “event planning and consulting,” said records by the Federal Election Commission.
The controversy
In the new financial disclosure, Trump reported that the $155,000 was paid to his wife on December 2, 2021. The date correlates with the $125,000 payment. The second payment of $30,000 was reportedly made the following day. The New York Times also criticized Trump for continuing his campaign after being indicted twice and is under numerous investigations.
Coulter’s tweet summed up the allegations
The former Trump supporter and media pundit Ann Coulter made fun of the alleged payment by writing on Twitter, “Not a grift at all.” She shared a link to the NY Times post. In another tweet, the conservative journalist and lawyer mocked Trump for fundraising for his 2020 election loss.

The former president continues to claim that the elections were stolen without substantial evidence. Coulter wrote, “Please contribute to STOP THE STEAL!!!” and “Help Trump fight DERANGED JACK SMITH!”

Unlike often sarcastic Coulter, former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson shared on X, “This is yet another example of the outrageous behavior of Donald Trump. Political leaders should not enrich themselves but rather seek to enrich everyday Americans. It’s time for us to move past Trump and invest in a new leader for our future.”
Chris Christie called Trump “shameless”
Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, also a presidential hopeful, posted, “A billionaire using donor money to pay personal legal fees, and now paying his wife more than 2x what the average American makes just to pick some tableware. There’s drifting, and then there’s Trump grifting. Undisputed champs.” Christie, who often fights Trump over the media, also called him “shameless.”
Coulter was once a fan
In recent years, Coulter became a vocal critic of the former president and even “accused” Trump of making “Biden look razor sharp.” Coulter was once a staunch supporter but turned on him after he failed to fulfill his promise to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.

During an interview on Andrew Sullivan’s Dishcast podcast in November 2020, she called Trump “abjectly stupid” and accused him of “directly betraying his base” after failing to build the wall. In May 2020, she said Trump was “disloyal.”
