Jesse Crosson went to prison at 18. A year into his sentence, he got a roommate, allegedly a serial killer. Still, the now-reformed American claims that sleeping in prison felt better.
The controversial video was titled, Prison sleep versus free sleeping
In the viral TikTok video, Crosson said, “I slept better in a prison than I do in the free world.” Though he had no idea how to relax while in prison, he found out that he was placed in a cell with a serial killer, and eventually, it became the only life he knew.
The issues with the free world
Life in prison was “a very simple life,” Crosson added. “I got up, went to work, I did programs, I exercised, I hung out with buddies, and I read.” He then proclaims, “There was nothing to keep me up at night.”
No social media or worries about everyday life
Crosson continued, “There was no social media to scroll through. There was no worry about bills or big aspirations or plans for the future.” That’s why the former inmate, now a TikTok sensation, “slept soundly.”
The world is stressful
The man said the world is quite stressful, though “it is a stress I’m happy to trade for because I have a lot more sleepless nights, but I’m also free.”
Crosson is not pro-jail, just against everyday anxieties
The man also believes many inmates return to prison because they do not know how to “handle that stress.” He adds, “they go from a place where they have no responsibilities, and they don’t have to do anything, to a place where they’re responsible for everything.”
Comments were brutally honest
Someone joked, “Is this a prison commercial?” while another shared, “reduce stress by going to prison. got it!”
Many saw Crosson’s point
One TikTok user shared how it is sad when life in the US is “more stressful than prison.” Another added, “it’s a giant adult daycare.”
Moms and even veterans agreed with the former detainee
One mom said that a week in a hospital reduced her stress. A veteran shared how this also applied to his situation.
Gradual transition
The poster shared that the solution for many former inmates would be a “gradual transition.” and more responsibilities for the prisoners. Many TikTok users wrote about their prison experiences or shared stories about their loved ones, confirming how Crosson’s words resonated with them.
The serial killer’s roommate
One of the most upvoted comments had nothing to do with sleep. Someone asked Crosson to talk about his former roommate, a serial killer.
Crosson already spoke about his cellmate
In 2004, Crosson was in Nottoway Correctional Center in Virginia. He got a new roommate, who was older and small. For six months, he had no idea who his cellmate was.
The revelation
Crosson’s stepmom told him who his cellmate was. After learning this, the two only shared a cell for three more months. Before, they played Monopoly, and Crosson felt bad for the guy because he never got any mail. But, after learning the truth, that all changed.
