The CEO of a high-end office furniture company sparked outrage after the video “Leave Pity City” went viral. In the video, Andi Owen answered the question about asking for bonuses, and her rant gave people plenty to talk about.

In a 1 minute and 21 seconds clip, Owen said: “Don’t ask about ‘what are we going to do if we don’t get a bonus?’ Get the damn $26 million!” She elaborated, “Spend your time and your effort thinking about the $26 million we need and not thinking about what you are going to do if you don’t get a bonus.”
Owen asked for a commitment
Further, she asked, “Can I can some commitment?” Then she shared that a boss told her, “You can visit ‘Pity City,’ but you can’t live there.”

Ultimately, she urged people to “leave ‘Pity City,'” adding, “Let’s get it done.” She thanked the workers and wished them a great day.

The clip soon went viral across social media, with many content creators giving their opinions on Owen’s rant. Meanwhile, online users branded her as “unhinged,” “toxic,” and “nasty.”

According to sources, this was a motivational speech in an online conversation that lasted over 75 minutes. A TikTok account DeFranco News Network shared that “she reportedly took home around $5 million last year. With around $3.9 million of that in stock awards and incentive-based compensation – on top of her fixed salary of nearly $1.1 million.”

Under a TikTok video from DeFranco News Network, one person said, “Glad I’m not HR at MillerKnoll! They’re in for a rough ride!” Another wrote, “I wonder how on fire the company is about to be.”

One TikTok user pointed out, “Ironically, she did receive a bonus.” Another added, “She’s literally saying: ‘Don’t worry about your bonus, help me get mine!'”

Someone said, “She was angry at her employees for wanting to confirm that they would be paid for their work.” In response, a person noticed, “She seems pleasant.”

One TikTok poster shared, “I’d be gone without notice the next day.” Another chimed in, “I would quit the next day.” The third branded her as “So passive aggressive.”
Owen’s bonuses dropped
Owen’s compensation dropped, with her total pay package falling to $4.9 million in 2022. It was $6.4 million in 2021, according to a regulatory filing. According to the hiring site Glassdoor, the average pay package for a sales executive at the company is $150,000.
Andi Owen has an impressive resume
Owen has two degrees from Harvard Business School and started her career as a department manager at Bloomingdale’s. She worked for numerous brands, like Banana Republic, Old Navy, and GAP, before joining MillerKnoll in 2018. This Zoom call will undoubtedly leave a mark on her CV.
