“People are that brainwashed”: Texas Teacher Under Fire for Teaching Students Constitutional Rights, The Pledge of Allegiance, and Harry Potter

A teacher from Texas, whose TikTok name is Sophie Marie, shared a disturbing video that soon went viral and surpassed three million views. The third-grade teacher was pulled into a “check-in meeting.” She then got a list of concerns “that she wanted to bring to my attention.”

Marie said her favorite is, “We’ve noticed an intentional attempt to teach your students about their legal and constitutional rights.”

She then asked her TikTok followers, “Why are you concerned?” And repeated, “Why is that a concern?”

As many noticed, this was one of many things that raised eyebrows.

How teaching history led to a silent protest

For this and other teachers, a pledge of allegiance stood out. As she pointed out in the follow-up video, children wanted to sit during the pledge of allegiance.

The teacher explained that the children were taught about Holocaust and propaganda. Marie taught the third graders why Hitler targeted young people and children to “spread his ideology.”

The kids wanted to learn more

This is why children wanted to know the history of the Pledge of Allegiance. Marie said, “We looked it up together and discovered that after the Civil War, the country was divided.” Almost in a whisper, she added, “About slavery.”

The teacher said they concluded that young children were used to create a sense of unity. That is why the Pledge of Allegiance was introduced in schools, according to some teachings. The kids wanted to protest, but Marie told them they could use “silent protest” instead of disrupting the classes.

Most people were terrified

The teacher was told the children could not understand why they protested. Marie was allegedly “indoctrinating my students,” as she was told.

A former teacher commented, “If we could actually indoctrinate students, we would have zero behavior issues in our classrooms.”

Another person wrote, “The idea that they can understand pledging themselves to their country but not capable of choosing not to is a terrifying line of logic to think about.”

The third shared, “From a former elementary school student who chose to sit out the pledge of allegiance alone, & got in trouble by my teachers every year: THANK YOU!!!”

The unbelievable censorship levels

Regarding Marie’s first video, comments went from amusing to downright petrifying. One person summed it up perfectly, “The censorship is unreal.”

Another found this ordeal funny: “The irony in their concerns being quite concerning.”

Others claimed that this is one of the reasons there is a shortage of educators.

Sophia was pulled out of the school

In a comment, the young teacher shared, “Update, I’m at the district office after being pulled out of my classroom.”

She got massive support from other teachers, with some calling her to move to another state with less rigid rules.

Some said, “Teaching about the government is literally in the curriculum,” while others were not as shocked. This person shared, “As someone raised in Austin, this doesn’t surprise me at all.”

The teacher ended up in the news

The teacher, real name Sophia DeLoretto-Chudy, was at a teachers’ rally and expressed her main concerns, “I teach at a bilingual school, and we didn’t have Spanish-English dictionaries in our classroom. It is basic supplies. And teachers are being asked to provide for their students.”

She shared that the salaries are extremely low, though she was not asked about her current job position. She was identified as a third-grade teacher from Becker Elementary School in Austin.

Harry Potter books were also “concerning”

Reddit users shared their thoughts on Marie’s videos.

One person predicted the teacher’s future, “Teaching Harry Potter, the Pledge of Allegiance, not responding to emails or Teams messages within 24 hours. They’re documenting their reasons for dismissal.”

Another shared, “People are that brainwashed, sadly.”

Another asked, “Couldn’t she sue them for wrongful dismissal if that happens, or are they sticking the other stuff in there so she can’t pull them up on one particular thing?”

Someone wrote, “But somehow reading about se-ual assault, gang ra-e, genocides, war, pedophilia, and justified slavery in the bible is OK.”

One of the best-rated comments read, “Don’t want students to be smart enough to think like individuals. Make them smart enough to follow the assembly line.”

The teacher was fired

The teacher, Sophia DeLoretto-Chudy,  said she had been fired and denied the chance to finish the year with her class. District officials claim the third-grade teacher violated the district’s social media policy by posting on TikTok.

She explained, “They made it clear that it wasn’t [interfering with work]. It had nothing to do with my instructional practices, what I was teaching, or how I was teaching. And it had everything to do with the fact that I had embarrassed one of my administrators on TikTok.”
