The 15-year-old would-be journalist Quinn Mitchell, known for his pointed questioning of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, was thrown out of a Republican Party event, the First in the Nation Leadership Summit in Nashua, New Hampshire, the Boston Globe reported.
Mitchell confirmed the news on X
The young journalist wrote, “Really stupid they did it again. Believe me, if I disrupted an event, my mom would never ever take me to another one – not my style.”
The New Hampshire Republican Party spokesperson called it a mistake
Jimmy Thompson, a spokesperson for the New Hampshire Republican Party, wrote in a message obtained by the New York Post, “During the course of the two-day event, an overzealous volunteer mistakenly made the decision to have Quinn removed from the event, thinking he was a Democrat tracker.”
Everything was just peachy
The texts allegedly said, “Once the incident came to our staff’s attention, NHGOP let him back into the event, where he was free to enjoy the rest of the summit.”
Mitchell discussed the experience in a podcast
In a 13-minute episode of his podcast, the aspiring journalist shared, “I knew that DeSantis was gonna speak there,” Mitchell said, adding, “So I knew there might be some ‘never back down’ people who knew who I was.”
The boy was accused of being a “tracker”
According to Mitchell, a woman approached him and said, “I know who you are. You’re a tracker.” The boy claims the woman took him to a room where a man said he had “misrepresented” himself. Local police officers escorted the teen out of the event.
Mitchell made DeSantis uncomfortable
In June, the teen asked DeSantis at a town hall event in Hollis, NH, if he believed “that Trump violated the peaceful transfer of power, a key principle of American democracy that we must uphold?” DeSantis’ response made the whole interaction go viral.
DeSantis’ reaction
The Florida Governor asked, “Are you in high school?” and asked, “Where do you go to school?” After getting an answer that the teen was from Vermont, DeSantis appeared annoyed and said, “If this election is about Biden’s failures and our vision for the future, we are gonna win.”
Instead, DeSantis talked about his Florida win
DeSantis did not give an answer and instead talked about the transition of power on January 5, 2021, in Florida.
The boy accused DeSantis of intimidation
In a July 4 parade incident, Mitchell told CNN that he was subjected to “physical intimidation” by DeSantis’ security team members. The teen called it a “restriction of free speech,” adding it was “very concerning they’re willing to go to that extent to just shut down a very simple question about January 6.”
Five police officers escorted the teen
Mitchell was escorted out of the GOP event by five police officers after filming videos of Republican Perry Johnson. “They told me I was being a disruption; I was taking a video like anybody else,” Mitchell told the Globe.
The August incident
In another incident, at an August town hall hosted by Never Back Down, a PAC that supports DeSantis, an attendee told the Globe that they saw one employee take a picture of Mitchell on Snapchat with the caption “Got our kid.”
The teen simply loves politics
“I honestly just love politics,” the teen told Boston.com. The outlet wrote how his social studies teacher, Paul Hopkins, said, “Mitchell is the only student he has ever taught to pass a citizenship test on the first try, scoring above 80 percent.”
