Conservatives are less likely to be classified with a mental health disorder and suffer mental illnesses, a Pew poll concluded.
The survey included white liberals, moderates, and conservatives
WIBC reported that the study included men and women who were liberals, moderates, or conservatives. Conservatives are less likely to suffer from mental health illnesses than liberals or the so-called “woke crowd.”
Young white women are predominantly affected
White women, ages 18 to 29, who identified as liberal, were given a mental health diagnosis by medical professionals in 56.3% of cases. 28.4% of moderates and 27.3% of conservatives were among those with a diagnosis.
Twitter group “End Wokeness” agreed
A Twitter account, “End Wokeness,” shared the data and said, “Wokeness is a mental health crisis.” Among comments, many argued that there is more to the story, though some were happy to proclaim, “I’ve said it many times, but it bears repeating. Woke white women are the worst!”
Liberals trust science more
One Twitter user replied, “This might actually be a representation of how much big pharma pushes the healthcare industry to sell their products.” In reply, a person shared, “People on the left tend to “trust science” more and buy into pharma products which are recommended by their doctors. Pills for kids are their goldmine. Suddenly every other child has ADHD and needs pills!”
Others had different ideas
Another Twitter poster wrote, “Young liberal women see claiming a mental health condition as a justification for their emotionalism and their failures in life.”
Some wanted others to define “woke”
One Twitter user shared, “The environment created by our forefathers created a mental health crisis which allowed new avenues to be opened. Why is critical race theory considered woke? Oh, because it makes whites feel terrible for learning the truth about their ancestors?”
Conservatives are less likely to seek medical help
Several people said, “That’s because conservatives don’t go to doctors.” Another elaborated, “This is likely more attributable to more acceptance of mental health and psychology and therefore more mental healthcare seeking behaviors by liberals compared to conservatives. It also doesn’t say what the condition is/if they were actually diagnosed with it. Could just be GAD.”
More chimed in
Another person added, “That would rely on the condition that individuals actually go to see a doctor in the first place.” This Twitter poster said, “Conservatives are obviously gonna have a lower percentage here, seeing as they never even go to doctors.”
Some defended “woke” culture
This person wrote, “What’re the anti-woke policies? Banning books? Banning classes? Banning education? Lmao – woke means knowledge. ‘You so woke about that topic’ And woke was coined by the black community. You’ve effectively banned your and your kid’s own knowledge to denigrate woke.”
The research was based on what people wanted to admit
As one Twitter poster pointed out, “This doesn’t show anything other than who is more willing to tell the truth. This isn’t statistics from actual medical experiences, but whatever the people in the study want to say. Conservatives rarely ever admit they have mental health problems and ignore medical professionals.”
According to data, white conservative males are mentally strongest
One person alleged, “Conservatives really need to open up about their mental health. It might help prevent all the delusions and gun fetishization. Getting the help you need is not a sign of weakness, people.” Others, however, shared, “This explains why conservative men are attacked as the main enemy of the agenda.”
More analyses needed
Another Twitter poster simply wrote, “Conservative men undefeated.” Regardless, the poll was conducted in 2020 and is open to interpretation, as numerous Twitter responses pointed out. Perhaps a more in-depth study would give real answers, but until then, everyone can use it to fit their narrative.
