A young woman shared a video explaining why she wanted to quit after only six months of working in the corporate world.
The viral video surpassed 1.5 million views on TikTok, and it brought into the spotlight the exhausting 9-to-5 work culture.
The young woman said she has only been part of the corporate world for six months, adding it is her first job of its kind.
She then explained her reasoning: “It’s not the fact that I don’t like my job and the people suck, and it’s just horrible. It’s actually a pretty nice job.”
The young woman said, “I love my coworkers, it’s all around great.” However, something is missing: “The one thing that I hate most is the fact that it’s been six months, and I literally feel like nothing has happened in the past six months.”
The woman added that the job is exhausting, “It’s more like 8 to 5, and sometimes it’s like 9 to 5.”
She then said that by the time Friday comes, she is tired: “I’ll be going through my work week, and then by the time it gets to Friday, I’m just so exhausted to the fact where, like, I can’t do anything on the weekend anymore.”
This is not her first job, but, as she said, “Something needs to change in this work culture.”
She wondered what will she feel after 40 years, saying, “This is not cutting it because I’m not gonna go through my entire life working for, like, 40 years, and then I wake up one day, and I think about it, and I’m like, ‘wow, it’s been 40 years, and I’ve done literally nothing’.”
Though she wants to quit, like many others, she can’t: “I will not have any money, so how am I supposed to live, like what am I supposed to do?”
The woman completed what she called her “rant” with a statement: “I don’t understand.”
While her job is ideal “if you look at it at face value,” many TikTok users understood her stance.
One person wrote, “We need 3-day weekends,” while another said that the 9 to 5 life is “the depressing cycle.”
A 20-something worker was hopeful, writing, “We as a generation have to change work culture.”
Another person echoed this statement: “That’s some Gen Z energy. I am here for it!”

Many agreed that a 9 to 5 corporate job is a “soul killer.”
Huynh is one of many millennials and Gen Z workers who want a change. The pandemic proved that many workers are capable of finishing the job from home, but that’s not it.
In 2021, 47 million Americans quit their job in search of something more meaningful.
That’s why many industries suffer labor shortages, with some experts saying that jobs are not fulfilling or paying enough due to ongoing inflation.
