“How am I still dropping my kids off in a good conscience?” Terrified mom “feels like an idiot” on school safety crisis

A mom of three and former educator went viral after speaking up about school safety.

A mom holding a baby asked her followers, “Is anyone else feeling like such an idiot because they are still dropping off their children at school and then driving away with a pit in their stomach? This worry, this fear, this hope they will see their kids in 6 and 1/2 hours?”

Vanessa, a 41-year-old mom, continued, “I feel like an idiot. Knowing what I know, how am I still dropping my kids off in good conscience?” With a pensive look, the mom added, “There’s something seriously wrong with this picture.”

The mom is considering homeschooling

The video’s caption read, “I need to get my husband on board with homeschooling stat because this feeling is paralyzing.” Sadly, many parents, as well as teachers, understood the feeling perfectly.”

Many agreed on homeschooling

One TikTok commentator said, “I’m letting my son finish his Kinder year, and we’re homeschooling in the Fall. I just can’t anymore…” Another mom shared, “You will not regret it. Six years in, and it’s the best thing I’ve ever done.”

Parents are living in constant fear

One parent wrote, “I didn’t say ‘I love you’ when he got out of the car this morning, realized it too late. Instant fear & regret knowing what could be.” Another mom shared, “Emptied my spare room & started buying classroom & school supplies. They aren’t safe anywhere else.”

Experts also feel petrified

A less than encouraging comment said, “I’m a dual-licensed psychologist and school psychologist. I, too, have this thought daily. It’s so hard.” Another mom shared, “I started homeschooling in 1998, mom intuition. Columbine happened the next year, and it’s only gotten worse. Youngest is ten now, still homeschooling.”

Teachers echoed parents’ dread

One teacher shared, “Not only do I drop them off at school, I then drive to teach at mine.” Another said, “I’m a teacher, and I totally understand. I think about my safety and the safety of my own kids and students all day long.”

It got so bad that parents were crying while dropping off children

One mom wrote, “I literally cried this morning leaving the school. It’s the worst feeling.” The original poster shared she did the same before filming the viral clip.

Homeschooling might be the solution

Someone believes that if “everyone pulls their kids and no one goes to work, the majority wins. You will see how fast things get done.” But that does nothing for parents who cannot afford it.

For working parents, homeschooling is a luxury

One person wrote, “Many of us can’t homeschool because of work. All families are different, and you aren’t alone.” Still, many want radical changes, as another person said, “Pull them out! Protest school and work. Demand massive reform. WAKE UP. Nothing is worth this. NOTHING.”

Parents have reasons to be worried

With school shootings on the rise, being a parent in the US feels hopeless. The fact that guns are the leading cause of death for US children and teens, since surpassing car accidents in 2020, only leaves parents with one question: When will it be enough?
