Donald Trump has always been a polarizing figure, so much so that he became the most polarizing president in U.S. history. Most of his clashes with interviewers and journalists are well documented, though some are more uncomfortable than others. In this list, you might notice that Trump’s temper was at an all-time high in the middle of his presidency.
Trump vs. Acosta
The press conference in November 2018 had several confrontations, but no one pushed Trump’s button as CNN’s chief White House correspondent, Jim Acosta. The center of the press conference was the migrant crisis, though, by the end, no one was talking about the real issues.
“You should let me run the country”
After Acosta alleged Trump was using “migrants climbing over walls” in his campaign videos, the then-president said, “You should let me run the country. You run CNN, and if you did it well, your ratings would be much better.” As soon as Acosta was about to ask a question, Trump said, “Here we go…”
Allegations against Acosta
An aide tried to take away the mic from Acosta and ended up being accused of touching her. The journalist almost lost accreditation, but CNN sued for “apparently doctored” images from the press conference.
Trump called Acosta “rude”
After Acosta was back in the White House, Trump scolded him, “CNN should be ashamed of itself having you work for them.” He added, “You are a rude, terrible person.”
Trump vs. Peter Alexander
NBC’s Peter Alexander tried to interfere during Trump’s attacks on Acosta. Alexander told the then-president and those at the press conference that Acosta was a hard-working professional. He explained, “In Jim’s defense, I’ve traveled with him and watched him,” the NBC man said. “He’s a diligent reporter who busts his butt like the rest of us.”
Trump disapproved of this defense
Trump told the NBC reporter, “Well, I’m not a big fan of yours either, to be honest. … You aren’t the best.” Everyone started laughing, but Trump and NBC contained clashing over the years. He thought the network was one-sided and claimed he wanted to revoke NBC’s license for broadcasting.
Trump vs. Yamiche Alcindor
During a press conference on November 7, 2018, Alcindor, PBS NewsHour’s White House correspondent, wanted to hear more about the ex-president using the word “nationalism.” Trump used the term during his rallies and was criticized for promoting white nationalism.
Trump yelled, “Racism”
Trump accused the journalist of racism, “That’s such a racist question.” He added, ” What you just said is so insulting to me. It’s a very terrible thing that you said.” It did not end there, though Trump eventually clarified that by “nationalism,” he means “patriotism.”
America first
During the press conference, he treated Alcindor with another juicy remark. He told her that “You have nationalists, you have globalists.” Trump added, “I also love the world and don’t mind helping the world, but we have to straighten out our country first.”
Trump vs. April Ryan
The White House correspondent for American Urban Radio Networks, April Ryan, thought that the former president wanted to hear her question. He didn’t.
Voter suppression
Ryan wanted to ask about voter suppression, but instead of answering, Trump called her “rude” and “hostile.” She later talked about the incident on “The View,” where she shared, “I thought he was receiving my question and wanted to talk about it, and then when he sees me, he says ‘Sit down,’ you know, in a very terse tone,” Ryan explained. “I was taken aback.”
Trump vs. Weijia Jiang
Brett Kavanaugh was Trump’s nominee for U.S. Supreme Court. When a psychology professor Christine Blasey Ford told The Washington Post that Kavanaugh assaulted her, it became a huge story. CBS reporter Weijia Jiang attempted to ask Trump about the allegations, but that did not pan out well.
Fake news
Ford explained that the alleged Kavanaugh incident happened while they were both teenagers. She said she was “pinned” down and “groped” by Kavanaugh at a party they attended in the 1980s. Jiang wanted a straightforward answer, but Trump kept repeating it was all false and tried to take the conversation in another direction.
Jiang fired back
When Jiang tried to return to the original question, Trump said that she’d been “asking the question for 10 minutes.” Jiang then noted that Trump “interrupted” her original question.
Trump vs. Christal Hayes
The press conference from September 2018 did not go well for female reports. Apart from Jiang, Sky’s Christal Hayes was walked over three times after asking Trump “how it will affect women to call these se.ual assault allegations a ‘con job’ by the Democrats.”
Trump vs. Jake Turx
One of the most talked about topics regarding Trump’s presidency included his alleged ties with Russia. In 2017, Turx, a Jewish reporter, was a rising star and had mutual respect with the 45th president. Trump called out Turx and said, “Watch how friendly he is.”
The unexpected question
Many thought Turx would ask questions about the alleged Russian coalition. Still, instead, he wanted to know about the rise in anti-Semitism in the U.S. Trump got angry and told the journalist, “I am the least anti-Semitic person that you’ve ever seen in your entire life.”
Better to be quiet
While this did not answer how will Trump administration deal with the problem, Turx learned that it would be best for him to sit down and be quiet, as Trump ordered. The journalist tried to explain it was not an attack on Trump’s presidency, but no one wanted to listen.
Trump vs. Megyn Kelly
Megyn Kelly is one of Trump’s least favorite reporters. Their beef officially started in 2015 during the first Republican presidential debate. Kelly was a Fox reporter at the time. She told Trump, “You’ve called women you don’t like fat pigs, dogs, slobs, and disgusting animals.” He was not happy about it.
The Twitter fight
Trump took their argument to Twitter, where he claimed that Kelly “bombed” during the debate. But that was nothing compared to Trump’s description of Kelly on CNN.
Trump and “blood whenever”
The presidential candidate said, “There was blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever.” This “wherever” meant from her nose, as Trump later clarified. The two had several more incidents and Twitter fights.
Trump vs. Wolf Blitzer
CNN’s Wolf Blitzer and Trump had a heart-to-heart in 2012. Trump kept saying that former president Obama was not born in the U.S. Famously, Trump told the famed reporter, “Frankly, if you would report [the birth certificate issue] accurately, I think you’d probably get better ratings than you’re getting, which are pretty small.”
The “ridiculous” interview
This back and forth made them both sound “ridiculous,” as others described the interview, but the debate about Obama’s place of birth continued until 2016. Trump declared at a rally: “President Barack Obama was born in the United States, period,” However, many Trump supporters still believe the 2012 claims.
Trump vs. Steph McGovern

BBC’s McGovern also met Trump in 2012 at the height of The Apprentice fame. She claimed the whole ordeal was “creepy” and alleged that Trump told her that she was “so beautiful” and said that he was “going to leave the room to make myself look better because if we do this interview, now everyone is just going to be staring at you and not listening to me.”
Trump tried to “disarm me”
McGovern explained what transpired during her guest appearance at “Have I Got News For You” in 2018. She alleged, “he thought that would disarm me,” The journalist added, “He thought, as a female journalist, that was the best thing to say to me rather than: ‘Oh, I watched your piece on, I dunno, mobile phone insurance last week.”‘
Awkward interview
McGovern told Trump that his lines were not very good, which only made things even more uncomfortable. The BBC reporter believes that Trump did not have respect for her, which was the bottom line of their interaction.
