While in New Mexico, the president started whispering in the middle of his speech in what was an attempt at humor, but it fell flat, even creepy.
Biden’s tone got lower
During a rally, the president talked about the economy, but then he said, “No President has paid much attention to that, but guess what? I’m paying attention.”
It appeared to be a joke
Based on Biden’s smile, and the applause, it was a joke, and it was not the first time the president used his whispering to gain attention. But, as seen in the video, the smile and the whisper only made it sound bizarre.
Despite this moment, the speech was a success
KOB 4 spoke to people who were at the rally, and one person told the network, “It’s really nice seeing the president come down here because it is for climate change awareness basically, and that is something that we need to focus on. Especially in this day and age with climate change and global warming. I am very happy that we are getting some visualization.”
Senator Greg Baca also praised the president
A spokesperson for Senator Greg Baca, who represents Belen, said, “We are happy to have the industry in Belen. I hope that this will be more than a photo op and actually a beginning of an economic plan that makes sense for people of New Mexico, who right now are suffering both at the gas pump and at the grocery store.”
Many people could not believe the president visited them
Most residents of the area cannot recall the last time a sitting president visited them, and it inspired regular folks and those in the Office. New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham gave her statement to Action 7 News.
The Governor talks about the president’s visit
New Mexico governor said, “he came to a rural, small community and county. He didn’t make political decisions about the bluest community in the state. He’s really advancing a nonpartisan economic agenda.” Part of that agenda includes the Inflation Reduction Act.
Biden mocked Lauren Boebert
President talked about Inflation Reduction Act which was signed into law last August. It led to 250 new jobs at New Mexico’s Arcosa Wind Towers. Then he mentioned Colorado and took a swipe at Boebert.
Biden’s jab
The president said, “Well, like in Colorado, where CS Wind broke ground on what will be the world’s largest wind tower manufacturing plant.” He added, “And coincidentally, CS Wind is Congresswoman Lauren Boebert—you know, the very quiet Republican lady—it’s in her district.”
But the president was not done
Daily Beast noted that the South Korean firm CS Wind will employ over 850 new workers, but Boebert, “along with every other Republican voted against this bill, and it’s making all this possible, and she railed against its passage,” said POTUS and added, “But that’s OK,” Biden added, “She’s welcoming it now.”
Biden’s new proposition
The president told New Mexico residents in the Belen area that he was open to granting assistance to people sickened by exposure to radiation during nuclear weapons testing, where the world’s first atomic bomb was tested in 1945.
