The President discussed gun control in Connecticut
The 46th president talked about the importance of gun control at the National Safer Communities Summit in West Hartford, Connecticut. However, Biden’s message got lost as soon as he ended the speech with, “All right? God Save the Queen, man.” Before the baffling statement, the President told the crowd there would be no greetings due to the upcoming storm.
People were left confused
Todd Gillman, the White House bureau chief for the Dallas Morning News, was at the event and said, “Several of you have asked me why he might have said that. I have no idea. Other poolers likewise have no idea.” With a lack of understanding of what was behind Biden’s latest gaffe, the phrase, also a title of the Sex Pistols smash hit, began trending across social media.
White House to the rescue
The White House press office elaborated that the President was “commenting to someone in the crowd,” BBC reported. However, with King Charles III on the throne, the White House should have offered a bit more context.
Biden said himself, “I am a gaffe machine”
While many want to portray Biden’s mistakes as something related to his age, he made gaffes throughout his whole long career. In 2010, he was confused about which of the then-Irish prime minister’s parents had passed away, so he said, “His mom lived in Long Island for ten years, or so, God rest her soul. Although she’s, wait. Your mom’s still alive. It was your dad that passed. God bless her soul. I gotta get this straight.”
His description of Obama was even worse
In 2007, Biden said, “You got the first mainstream African American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy.” He then clarified, “What I meant was that he’s got new ideas; he’s a new guy on the block.” He still became Obama’s VP, and the two maintained solid friendships for years.
Biden’s admission
In 2019, the President said, “I am a gaffe machine. But my God, what a wonderful thing compared to a guy who can’t tell the truth.” The other guy was obviously Trump, who also commented on Biden’s gaffes, “When I say something that you might think is a gaffe, it’s on purpose. It’s not a gaffe. When Biden says something dumb, it’s because he’s dumb.”
The President’s wisdom
In his bid for the second term as POTUS, Biden stated he had “acquired a hell of a lot of wisdom,” adding he knows “more than the vast majority of people.” Despite many GOP voters going after Biden due to his age, he is only three years older than Trump, but unlike Trump, he has decades of working in politics.
Biden on gun control
Biden repeated requests for stronger, sticker gun control laws, saying that shootings in the US happen “every damn day.”
