GOP state Senator Colton Moore of Trenton is suspended over plans to impeach Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis for indicting former President Donald Trump.
GOP Caucus issued a statement
The Caucus statement said, “Despite the fact that 32 of 33 Republican State Senators, the Governor, Lt. Governor, Speaker of the House, and the Chairman of the Georgia Republican Party agree that a Special Session to take action against the Fulton County District Attorney is impossible, Senator Moore has a right to his opinion.”
Posing harm
The statement continued, “During his advocacy for his ill-conceived proposal, Senator Moore has knowingly misled people across Georgia and our nation, causing unnecessary tension and hostility while putting his caucus colleagues and their families at risk of personal harm.”
Moore called them “RINOs”
“The Georgia RINOs responded to my call to fight back against the Trump witch hunts by acting like children and throwing me out of the caucus,” Moore wrote on X, and added, “But I’m not going anywhere.”
Moore had more to say
The Senator wrote on X, “I stand by my Republican principles. I stand by the Republican platform. I will continue to serve as a Republican Senator from the great state of Georgia. Unfortunately, now I will be forced to refer to my colleagues, who ran on being ‘Trump conservatives’ as the RINO caucus.”
The conclusion
The Georgia Republican concluded, “The people of Georgia are 100% with me. This is the fight of our lifetime, and I will continue to double down to defend the rule of law and do what is right. I will continue to EXPOSE Fani Willis and the RINOs covering for her.”
Moore’s status
Moore will remain a Republican member of the Senate, but passing legislation will be extremely challenging without the support of the majority in the Caucus. That is even less likely after Republican state Senators. Bo Hatchett and Shelly Echols issued a statement accusing Moore of targeting them for retaliation and receiving threats.
Georgia Governor did not support Trump’s election claims
Governor Kemp dismissed Trump’s claims about the 2020 elections. He commented on Moore’s efforts, calling them a “political theater that only inflames the emotions of the moment.” Kemp added that a special session “would ignore current Georgia law and directly interfere with the proceedings of a separate but equal branch of government.”
Trump asked for Willis to be punished
“Governor Kemp of Georgia is fighting hard against the impeachment of the crooked, incompetent & highly partisan D.A. of Fulton County, Fani Willis, who has allowed murder and other violent crime to MASSIVELY ESCALATE,” the former president wrote on August 21 on Truth Social.
Greene against Willis
Marjorie Taylor Greene threatened on X, “Fani Willis should be ashamed of herself, and she’s going to lose her job. We’ll make sure of that.” She posted Trump’s mugshot and a mock mugshot of herself.
Jordan is fighting with Willis
House Judiciary Committee chairman sent a letter to Willis asking her to turn in the documents related to the RICO charges against Trump and 18 others. Willis replied by attacking his attempt to use “congressional authority to intrude upon and interfere with an active criminal case in Georgia.”
Willis had more to say
The DA cautioned, “To threaten me is a waste of time; it’s a complete waste of their time.” She continued, “One thing that people learn about me is I’m an equal-opportunity prosecutor. So if you come into this community and you violate the law, you’re going to be held accountable.”
Willis said her father received threats
Despite sharing that her family received threats, the Fulton County DA said, “It’s not going to stop what I’m doing.” She also shared, “I’ve probably been called the N-word more times in the last two-and-a-half years than most — a hundred people combined.”
