Ron “Don’t Say Gay” DeSantis said Dodgers stadium was “virtually empty” on LGBTQ Pride Night, but the game had higher attendance than average

Ron DeSantis, alongside many conservatives, was celebrating an allegedly empty Dodgers stadium, but the game attendance was higher than usual.

The Governor shared on Twitter, “Good on the thousands who showed up at Dodger Stadium to protest this anti-Catholic hate group. The virtually empty stadium for the game itself was a powerful image – Americans are fed up with the nonsense and are fighting back.” But commentators soon broke down DeSantis’ celebrations.

One person replied to DeSantis, with receipts from Forbes, “The Dodgers recorded an attendance of 49,074 on Pride Night, slightly higher than its league-leading average of 47,800. “Then they asked DeSantis to “stop the fake narrative of conservative news media because we are calling you out on your bulls.it.”

Even conservatives stood up against DeSantis’ claims

One person mentioned religious protests outside regarding Pride Night and said, “I support the protestors.” They continued, “The stadium was not ‘virtually empty.’ The award ceremony was over an hour before the game, so, of course, it was relatively empty, like the photos below. That being said, fans still attended the game. ~49K.” Another shared, “Try again, Ron. You’re lies are easily dismissed.”

Some warned the Governor

Someone wrote, “The attendance at the game was above normal. The photo is 1 hour before game time, and this volume of people is normal. If you want to lead the country, then stop with the gotcha’s and give us facts we can trust.”

Another wrote, “Actually admired u for your approach to Covid & standing up to the ‘expert class.’ But this is absurd. The Sisters are NOT a ‘hate group,’ as you claim. Yes, they are all about parody & satire, but they’re an equal-opportunity offender. Also, actually raise a lot of $ for charities.”

The controversy surrounding the Pride Night

Self-described “leading-edge order of queer and trans nuns” got a Community Hero Award from the Dodgers, which led to a “prayerful procession” by religious and anti-LGBTQ protestors. The protestors held a mass in the parking, right next to people who were there to support LGBTQ rights. Some came to show support for their faith, others to support the LGBT community, but both sides remained dignified with only a handful of MAGA hats.

The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence are a controversial charity group

The group was founded in San Francisco in 1979. Dodgers announced on their Twitter, “We are pleased to share that they have agreed to receive the gratitude of our collective communities for the lifesaving work that they have done tirelessly for decades.” The group organized a “Hunky Jesus” and “Foxy Mary” competition last Easter, which triggered responses from Catholics in the area.

The group issued a statement

On their website, the Sisters wrote, “Our group has been strengthened, protected, and uplifted to a position where we may now offer our message of hope and joy to far more people than before. With great love and respect, we thank each person and each organization that has spoken up for us.”
