Plane rides come with numerous awkward moments. A man wanted to know if he had made a mistake in “manspreading” during the flight, and to say that it was an intriguing experience would be an understatement.
A tall man in the middle
A man, 26, was in the middle seat, surrounded by women. Next to the window was a woman in her 20s, and the aisle seat was reversed for a woman in her 30s.
The flight was around six hours long
The man took to Reddit, explaining, “My knees always dig into the seat in front.” A half an hour into the flight, “I found my left knee inching to the side for the sweet relief of open space — specifically, the no-man’s-land in between seats.”
The man continued spreading
He confessed, “It’s possible that at some point, I was occupying space that rightfully belonged to my window seat neighbor.” The woman next to the window called the flight attendant and asked if the man could keep his legs in his seat.
He was embarrassed
As he continued, he stated, “I instantly retracted my leg in deep shame.” The woman did not want to hear a word when he started apologizing.
The silent treatment
The man “went from embarrassed to confused.” He kept “wondering why she didn’t simply ask me to move my knee instead of calling over the attendant.”
He started spying on her
The aisle woman was asleep, but the woman next to the window was texting. The man confessed to spying on her phone, stating, “She spent the last 3 hours of the flight watching videos and texting someone she called Papi. A significant portion was definitely about me; she wrote, ‘Men do be too much sometimes.'”
The man wondered if he was in the wrong
He concluded, “She ignored me the whole rest of the flight, and I ignored her. I got a good but painful workout of whatever muscle it is that keeps your knees together.” The highlighted comment on Reddit said that the man knew what he was doing, adding, “Women can feel too vulnerable to confront a tall guy.”
It only got worse
The poster further shared, “She didn’t call the attendant to tell you to move, she called her to have an authority figure to help her make a point.” As for snooping, the Reddit user asked, “Seriously, dude?!”
No Boundaries
Others shared that the OP was wrong, as one person said, “She wanted to be left alone before, and she wanted to be left alone after making her complaint.” Another told him to buy himself a better seat instead of disturbing others.
People did not understand the snooping thing
One Reddit poster shared, “The way I initially saw it: sure, it’s his responsibility to book a seat that accommodates his size.” However, the spying was “ridiculously intrusive.” Another highlighted comment said this was a typical situation for younger women. They pointed out the lesson: “Leave women alone, book a seat upfront if you are tall, and ask for permission before spreading out.”
Manspreading and mansplaining
Someone wrote, “Too many men think they’re owed whatever they want.” More chimed in, “I don’t like being touched, and I make sure I always try to avoid it. You need to be mindful of those around you.”
The man was labeled YTA
People said he was in the wrong. What do you think? Was the guy pushing boundaries, or was he honestly regretting manspreading in the first place?
