Georgia Governor Brian Kemp said he would back Trump if he became the GOP nominee for the elections, claiming the former president is a better choice than Biden.
Backing Trump despite everything
Speaking to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Kemp, who had clashes with Trump, explained, “Despite all of that, despite all of his other trials and tribulations, he would still be a lot better than Biden.”
Better administration
Kemp doubled down, “And the people serving in the administration would be a lot better than Joe Biden.”
Trump is not a fan
The two-term governor faced Trump’s wrath after refusing to accept Trump’s false claims about stolen elections. In 2022, Trump supported the incumbent governor’s opponent, David Perdue, but Kemp’s victory was smooth.
Kemp’s speech in April
The governor told CNN in April, “If you look in the rearview mirror too long while you’re driving, you’re going to look up, and you’re going to be running into somebody, and that’s not going to be good.”
Still, Kemp will support Trump
The governor stated, “It has everything to do with winning and reversing the ridiculous, obscene positions of Joe Biden and this administration that literally, in a lot of ways, are destroying our country.”
The Peach State is up for grabs
The governor explained that Trump has a chance of winning Georgia, but if he clings to the 2020 elections, he would lose.
The governor blasted Trump over Covid response
Kemp wrote on X in September 2023, “The fact is former president Trump led the opposition to my decision to reopen Georgia – the first state in the country to do so.”
Accusations
The governor added, “While he listened to Fauci & parroted media talking points, I listened to hardworking Georgians. He may not remember, but I sure as hell do.” The governor responded to a Daily Caller post showing Trump declaring, “To every COVID tyrant who wants to take away our freedom – Hear these words: WE WILL NOT COMPLY. So, don’t even think about it.”
Kemp warned
Additionally, the Georgia governor said, “If he continues, like he’s done in the past, to attack other good Republicans who don’t agree with him 100 percent of the time, there’s a good chance he can lose the election.”
Not a coward
Kemp added, “It has nothing to do with being a coward. It has everything to do with winning and reversing the ridiculous, obscene positions of Joe Biden and this administration that literally, in a lot of ways, are destroying our country.”
People are not thrilled
“Brian Kemp is a real profile in cowardice and hypocrisy. No matter if Donald Trump is the GOP presidential nominee, I wouldn’t support someone who tried to overthrow the government to stay in power and stole classified documents…Shame on you,” Island Girl wrote on X.

“Kemp is willing to destroy our country by backing dangerous Trump! Why?” X user Nila Vehar asked. “At the end of the day, you have to go with the lesser of two evils. That’s why even though I support DeSantis I’ll vote for Trump if he’s the nominee,” user Howard shared.
