“Nobody got my approval” – Trump unleashes fury as GOP did not consult him about debates

Donald Trump made a thread to leave the Republican party on his Truth Social network. His post was a reaction to the GOP announcing their 2024 debates without consulting the former president, though nothing has been made official.

In August 2023, Donald Trump’s party will start the presidential debates. The 2024 RNC convention will be held in Milwaukee in July 2024 “to share our message of freedom and opportunity with the world.” The schedule was released in February, but Trump did not react until late April.

Trump made claims he would not attend simply because he was not informed beforehand. However, he could work around the dates, though that was not on his mind.

He shared on Truth Social, “I see that everybody is talking about the Republican Debates, but nobody got my approval, or the approval of the Trump Campaign, before announcing them.”

He alleged that anchors are MAGA and Trump “haters”

Trump continued, “When you’re leading by seemingly insurmountable numbers, and you have hostile Networks with angry, TRUMP & MAGA hating anchors asking the ‘questions,’ why subject yourself to being libeled and abused?”

The second debate enraged Trump

The former president shared details about the second debate: “The Second Debate is being held at the Reagan Library, the Chairman of which is, amazingly, Fred Ryan, Publisher of The Washington Post.” He concluded with caps lock and one big fat, “NO!”

The Republicans left the Commission on Presidential Debates

In 2022, Donald Trump’s party left the Commission on Presidential Debates established in 1987 by the Democratic and Republican parties. The party said that Presidential Debates are biased.

RNC chair Ronna Romney McDaniel stated, “The RNC voted to withdraw from the biased CPD, and we are going to find newer, better debate platforms to ensure that future nominees are not forced to go through the biased CPD in order to make their case to the American people.”

During the 2020 campaign, Trump’s debates caused the party a lot of grief. The media was more focused on his “unhinged” behavior, with New York Times writing that even his supporters were not up for it.

The second election debate in 2020 was supposed to be held in Miami. The idea was for the audience in the town hall to ask questions to the Republican candidates. Trump refused to be part of it.

Is Trump afraid of the debates?

While some alleged that Trump does not know how to debate, Senator Ted Cruz speculated that Trump might be afraid of these events after Trump dropped out Fox News Channel debate with him.

Cruz shared that “We can debate foreign policy if he wants, but the problem is, he doesn’t have even a basic modicum of knowledge.”

The senator shared how Trump “was saying just a week ago that he was eager to get one-on-one with me. Well, this debate, the field is narrowed even more, and he could have had a direct debate with me, and yet Donald apparently is ducking. He’s afraid of being challenged.”

Is Cruz onto something?

The senator might have a point. Due to a lack of experience in politics, Trump’s debates are often hard to follow and give some excellent reality TV moments. Things might change now that DeSantis is officially running for GOP nominee.
