Man Finds Shark Egg on Beach with an Actual Live Shark in It, Takes It Home to Hatch

Xander de Beer was strolling the South African beaches when he spotted a shark egg. The man, who has a fishing guiding/charter company, was stunned upon learning that the baby shark was alive.

De Beer shared the clip on TikTok, leaving many viewers in disbelief.

Speaking to Newsweek, de Beer said: “I knew it was a shark egg, most likely a shyshark egg, I didn’t expect to find a live baby shark in it, though. Usually, they are dead by the time you find them.”

He confirmed this was “the first time I’ve found one with a live shark in it. I was surprised and amazed at what I have found.”

De Beer confirmed it was most likely a “puffadder shyshark.”

The egg was in a capsule, which many called a “mermaid’s purse.”

Talking to his TikTok followers, de Beer said, “Found this little fella in his egg on the beach,” he said. “Brought it home to put in in a tank with the hopes of it hatching and to release it again. He would’ve dried out and died on the beach!”

He hopes the embryo will hatch, and then he will put it in a tank, where he will create an ecosystem for the shark.

De Beer made a follow-up, where he said that the “little friend is still alive and well! Really hope this little shark survives and we can see it hatch to safely return it to the ocean.”

He cannot put it back in the ocean because” if I put it back, it would have just washed up and died in any case.”

The baby is making progress, “so hopefully, it will survive, and I can show the process to you guys.”

People were in awe. One person wrote: “Nature is so fascinating, I never knew sharks could lay eggs until I seen your videos.”

Another said they learned more on TikTok than in school, while the third echoed the previous statements, “I thought sharks had live babies…???? My whole life has been a lie.”

Some were fascinated, while others made funny remarks, as one person wrote,
“Whoa! This is a whole science lesson for me. I had no idea.”

Another chimed in:
“I was over here trying to figure out how you put it in that keychain.”

De Beer promised more updates, and everyone is eagerly waiting to see the little guy grow. The first video earned almost 5 million likes, proving that the TikTok community was fascinated by this little fella.
