Tawnya Irwin and Wade Lovett, 40, from East Palestine, talked to the media.
People were shocked upon hearing the man’s voice.
Wade said that after the train blew up, he lost his voice and said, “I sound like Mickey Mouse.”
Tawnya told the media that Wade had a “deep, raspy” voice before the potentially hazardous train derailment.
Wade then stated that he would get tested, adding his doctor told him he must have “chemicals in me.” Tawnya said he must find a toxicologist to know what had happened to him.
Wade’s voice is only part of the problem. He claims his chest hurts at night, and it “feels like I’m drowning.”
He also has a hard time breathing and coughs up a lot. He ended the interview by saying he had been in good health previously.

Reddit users shared their opinions, with one of the most upvoted comments saying, “He is describing symptoms of pulmonary edema and should probably be in the hospital right now. There are a couple of reasons you might end up with pulmonary edema, not the least of which is exposure to certain toxins.”
Another wrote, “I was thinking he may have developed CHF by the way he’s describing coughing up phlegm and describing the feeling of drowning when he wakes up. He might consider using a CPAP until he’s treated properly.”
The highlighted comment criticized the politics, “Remember the governor turned down aid and told the residents it was safe to go home. He tried to cover how bad it was and downplayed it to cover for the railroad company.”
Many agree that politicians on every level do not care about citizens, with a person asking, “Why do we even believe in people like that governor?” Another shared, “Thanks for the railroad safety rollback, Trump.”
Quickly, Reddit users turned to politicians again, with someone saying, “The problem I am seeing as someone just outside this area is that the republicans pushed an anti-science agenda, and we are now seeing the effects of this.”
This happened since many noticed that “the woman is wearing a Trump shirt.”

Another Reddit poster shared their experience, “I live 150 miles east, and I’ve been wheezing ever since this started. My daughter had her first middle-of-the-night asthma attack less than one week from this spill.”
Others were not surprised, “If it was killing the wildlife almost instantly after it spilled, then I can only imagine what it would do to a human body… we aren’t invincible.”
Someone pointed out, “If I woke up sounding like that, I would go to the emergency room.”
A decent amount of Reddit users thought it was fake, as one user wrote, “That’s totally fake. No proof; I can just hear him laugh 17 seconds into the video, and his voice was fine.”
Some chose to reserve their judgment. Many wondered how was only Wade’s voice affected, with others explaining, “Different people have different bodies, different reactions, and have probably experienced different levels of exposure, variables,…”
