Former White House official on Trump: “Being a sociopath really works for him”

Political strategist, and former White House official, David Axelrod made a claim that Trump’s alleged disorder comes in handy after the latest charges were read to Trump in the Miami courthouse.

It started with questioning Trump’s motives

The New York Times published an opinion piece by Maureen Dowd, who wondered about “Donald Trump’s motives, state of mind, family web, obsessions” after the federal indictment. Dowd wrote, “Trump is feral, focused on his own survival, with no sense of shame or boundaries or restraint.”

Dowd continued, “He has burrowed, tick-like, into the national bloodstream, causing all kinds of septic responses.” The columnist spoke to David Axelrod, political strategist and consultant and former White House official, who worked as Obama’s Senior Advisor to the President, and the Senior Strategist for Obama’s re-election campaign in 2012. Axelrod said about the indictment, “In that sense, being a sociopath really works for him.”

An alternative version of reality

Axelrod wrote that Trump “has worked to discredit and demean any institution that raises inconvenient truths or seeks to hold him accountable for his actions — not just media, but law enforcement and the election system itself.” In his piece for The Atlantic, Axelrod also shared how “The former president has a diabolical genius for selling his supporters on an alternative version of reality.”

“Trump has worked to discredit and demean any institution that raises inconvenient truths or seeks to hold him accountable for his actions—not just the media, but law enforcement and the election system itself,” Axelrod added. This observation is clearly visible with constant attacks on federal institutions, including the Department of Justice and the FBI. Similarly, his post on Truth Social regarding Fox News or CNN goes in line with Axelrod’s allegations.

Bill Barr again slammed Trump

former attorney general Bill Barr slammed Trump’s defense, calling it “absurd.” Barr said on CBS’ “Face the Nation,” “It’s just as wacky as the legal doctrine they came up with for, you know, having the vice president unilaterally determine who won the election.”

Still, he does not support jail for Trump

Barr added Trump’s indictment on 37 federal criminal charges was “entirely of his own making.” However, he doesn’t “like the idea of a former president serving time in prison.”

After the Manhattan indictment, the number of people backing the former president plummeted. However, a poll from JL Partners had bad news for all candidates most likely to be sworn in in January 2025.

Describing candidates in several words

The voters used words to describe each candidate, and for Trump, among the top ten were Trump, “criminal,” “disgusting,” “liar,” “evil,” “dangerous,” and “patriot.” DeSantis got “fascist” and “unsure,” showing that most Americans are still not in tune with DeSantis’ platform.

Others, including Biden, got unflattering but less frightening attributes

The current president was mainly described as “old” and “incompetent,” while Chris Christie, the former governor of New Jersey, is simply “fat'” or “irrelevant.” James Johnson, the co-founder of JL Partners, commented, “The key group to the next election – independent voters – are unsatisfied with any of the current choices available.”
