Behind Trump’s attack on DeSantis
DeSantis was or still could be the biggest threat to Donald Trump in the Republican party. However, there were allegations that he has been losing backers, and Trump claims this is due to DeSantis’ “crashing” poll numbers.

In his post, Trump shared, “Florida has the Sun & the Ocean, and was GREAT long before I put Ron there.” He continued, “The semi-elite’ No Growthers’ are considering sending Ron to the great Walter Reed Medical Center for an emergency personality transplant. His poll numbers are crashing!”
Trump has a habit of picking on DeSantis
The 45th president, who announced he would run for president in November, said that the Florida governor “begged” him for an endorsement, with “tears coming down from his eyes.” However, due to a lack of “loyalty,” the two parted ways. Trump spoke to the AP about DeSantis’ potential candidacy and shared, “I do think it would be a great act of disloyalty because, you know, I got him in. He had no chance. His political life was over.”
The biggest threat among the Republicans
In the previous months, Trump called DeSantis various names, but the Florida governor brushed it all off. Furthermore, Politico alleged that Trump and his PAC trustees are preparing a comprehensive opposition study by reviewing DeSantis’ record as a prosecutor, member of Congress, and governor.
DeSantis lost one backer
One top Republican donor said DeSantis has extreme views, especially regarding “his stance on abortion and book banning.” This does not mean DeSantis did not lose more supporters in the background.
Almost half of the Republicans do not want Trump
The party is divided, though, at this point, Trump does not have a strong opponent. A Republican backer Thomas Peterffy shared that they “are waiting to see who among the primary candidates is most likely to be able to win the general.”
Social media users laughed at Trump’s remarks
Most Reddit users agreed this was “vintage Trump.” One person wrote, “Trump has actually always been funny. He wouldn’t be the head of a cult of personality if he didn’t have some charisma.” Another added, “There’s a LOT of Trump supporters who voted for him based on his entertainment value. Because that’s what a lot of them value in a president.”

Someone shared, “When Republicans feud like this, you end up agreeing with one of them occasionally, and it’s a weird feeling to have because Donald Trump is a disaster, but that is an accurate burn.” Another wrote, “DeSantis is not the man to take Trump down. Apparently.”
