Am I the Worst for Smoking Next to a Pregnant Woman at a Concert?

One woman shared how she recently went to a concert and “made small talk with the couple next to me while waiting.” After the concert started, she lit up a joint, and the husband notified her that his wife was pregnant.

But the woman ignored them, saying, “It’s a show. You came here, you can choose to leave.”

The woman spoke to her roommate after the venue, who called her out. She turned to Reddit to ask, “Am I The A…hole?”

The Reddit community was almost in perfect agreement with calling out the woman. However, not everyone had the same reason for telling her she was in the wrong.

One person wrote, “Her being pregnant is irrelevant. YTA for smoking next to other people.”

Another shared, “Smoking indoors in 99% of public places is illegal.”

The third person said they, too, smoke, but “it’s about consent.”

Another smoker shared, “I always step far away from any crowd when I smoke, even if it’s an outside venue, no matter the type of smoke or how many ppl are smoking in the crowd.”

Some called her “selfish,” while others said the woman was “rude.”

One comment received over 20k upvoted, and it read, “if I were her, I would have left or called security to move you. She and her baby’s health is more important than the concert.”

Another shared a different reason for judging the woman’s behavior, “Imagine a fire starting in that situation.”

A person “who has a severe allergy to Marijuana smoke” said, “people like this make it basically impossible to enjoy a concert without being a blubbery snotty, sneezing mess.”

People with asthma also shared how this was wrong as one person shared, “I went to a concert, and a person near us was smoking. My sister had an asthma attack, and the rescue inhaler wasn’t enough. We had to leave the concert in an ambulance.”

And this Reddit user pointed out, “Take an edible, smoke before you come in, bring a vape, and hit it outside if you must. So many options these days besides forcing someone else and their unborn fetus to inhale it too.”

This person also considered the unborn baby, “Even secondhand smoke is extremely harmful to a developing fetus. Not smoking near a pregnant woman is basic human decency.”
